Faust’ by J.W. Goethe.

The play Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was performed by the Theatrical Group Persona in Cyprus. The production was part of the 9th Theatre Festival, with performances listed in May and September 2025. 

How far can man go in his quest for absolute knowledge? What would you be willing to sacrifice to achieve the impossible? Dr. Faust's deal with Mephistopheles – the exchange of his soul for absolute knowledge – is only the beginning of a thrilling adventure that will take him to the extremes of human experience. Passion, love, destruction and redemption compose a soul journey that mirrors the eternal existential human quest.

In an era where artificial intelligence and biotechnology are redefining the boundaries of the human species, “Faust” invites us to confront the most crucial questions of our time: What is the true price of progress? Where does ambition end and hubris begin? Can man manage knowledge without self-destruction? Faust’s love for Marguerite, which leads to one of the most shocking tragedies in world literature, poses the eternal question: How far can one go in the name of passion?

Margarita’s destruction becomes a mirror of our own moral compass in a world where the boundaries between good and evil are becoming increasingly blurred. The directorial approach attempts to present “Faust” as a mirror of the modern era, where technological progress and the insatiable thirst for knowledge confront humanity with unprecedented challenges.

Through an innovative perspective and with an all-female troupe, the performance attempts to bridge the past with the present, with Faust's dilemmas echoing deafeningly timely and timeless. A performance that aspires to bring the viewer face to face with the darkest secrets of human nature. Just as Faust confronts his demons, so too are we called to face our own limits, our own doubts, our own temptations.

A performance-challenge for the modern viewer that will enchant him, shake him and make him wonder: what would he do if he were in Faust's place?
