Little Marital Crimes
by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt
Directed by Sotos Stavrakis and performed in Nicosia at Theatro Dionysos in March, 2024.

«My love for you… a nebula at the back of my mind!»
Gilles, a famous crime novelist [2, 5], and his wife Lisa [3], return to their home from the hospital, where Gilles had been for 15 days, after an accident that injured his head, resulting in memory loss. Lisa tries to help him regain his memory. However, through their dialogue, great truths and lies are revealed, overturning the reality of both.
The masterful work by the great contemporary French writer is a psychoanalysis and anatomy of modern relationships. A psychological drama lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes unfolds on stage, which at the same time touches the limits of black comedy that poses problems for strong solvers. It is a work that requires not only sincerity but above all courage towards ourselves, to endure the questions that arise as the play unfolds. It pushes us to search or even to question our own motives in a relationship. A dialogic recital with rhythm, twists and alternating atmospheres that invites the viewer to be immersed in its plot, through the dense philosophical discourse and the cynical-comic teasing (marivontage).
A work that is a hymn not for fleeting loves and "adventures," but for long-term relationships. A work for those who struggle to overcome decay and habit, whatever the price.
